The Hallora Marathon Festival
The Hallora Marathon Festival is a regional running event, with two main aims:
1. to build community engagement, whilst promoting physical activity
2. to raise much needed funds for Peter Mac Cancer Centre.
The Hallora Marathon began as a marathon in 2015. The event was started by Daniel (the event president) as a perfect opportunity for him to raise money for Peter Mac, as he saw this cause to be so important, as it was very close to his heart.
The event was inspired by one of Daniel's friend's, Sarah Porter, who was diagnosed with Leukaemia. She spent a long time at Peter Mac during her recovery. Daniel's Pa was also diagnosed with the disease, and passed away after suffering prostate cancer.
Following this, the drive to make the Hallora Marathon Festival happen each and every year since has been inspired by these stories, and the stories of so many others. We want to be able to raise money to allow people like Sarah and Daniel’s Pa the optimal treatment, to go on and live fulfilling lives.
The Hallora Marathon Festival is a run, walk and cycle event for all ages and abilities.
We have a range of events for all, starting with our longest and most challenging events, the 42km and 24km events that begin at Hallora Recreation Reserve. These two events travel along Main South Road and into Drouin. They connect to the Drouin end of The Two Towns Trail. The 24km course travels one way from Hallora to Warragul and finishes at Western Park. However, the marathon (42km event) loops back and travels three times between Drouin and Warragul, finishing at the Warragul end of the Two Towns Trail, where runners are then greeted at our finish line at Western Park, Warragul.
The other events we offer are our shorter, family friendly events. These options include distances of 16km, 8km, 5km and a Kids Dash (200m) event. These events all begin and end at Western Park in Warragul. They are all out and back courses. They head out on The Two Towns Trail, towards Drouin and their distance turn around points are all guided by signage and marshals.
The finish line at Western Park in Warragul is a great place to be for all. The community buzz of all the spectators really assists in getting everyone over the finish line. We have music, MCs, merchandise, food, drinks, a community BBQ fundraiser run by The Pharaoh's Angels and so much more to enjoy and refuel after the races are complete. At The Hallora Marathon, we are all about community involvement and we are extremely grateful for The Baw Baw Shire Council, as well as our sponsors and all of the local businesses, who support us each year.
We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday December 8th, 2024!
