Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and an awesome place to run a marathon. Take in views of Sydney harbour and the iconic opera house, run on dramatic coastal paths or head to the mountains for spectacular trails and knee busting elevation.
Below is a list of marathons, half marathons and ultra-marathons in Sydney and the surrounding area including the Central Coast and amazing Blue Mountains.
9 Sydney Marathons events
The Westlink M7 Blacktown Running Festival due to take place on the 25th of July 2021 has been postponed to the 12th of September 2021.
This traffic free circuit offers a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km, 5km as well as a 2km kids race.
Described as one of the most scenic and spectacular courses in Australia, the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival attracts around 33,000 participants annually. In 2013 the Blackmores Sydney Marathon was the first Australian marathon to be broadcast live in 23 years.
The Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is run on one of the most spectacular courses in the world, taking in all of the Sydney iconic landmarks and providing all runners with a unique opportunity of crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge traffic free.
The Sri Chinmoy Sydney will take place on the 26th of September 2021 at Dolls Point in Sydney. There are three distances on offer, a 4km, 7km and Half Marathon. The courses are scenic loops and generally flat with a challenging rise over the Captain Cook Bridge.
Beautiful Centennial Park in Sydney is the location of the second The Sri Chinmoy Mara-Fun Relays on Sunday 10 October. Runners can choose to complete the full 42. 2km marathon distance solo or in relay teams of 2 to 4 members.
The Three Bridges Run returns for a third year! This spectacular 5km, 9km, 21. 1km (half marathon) or 42. 2km marathon run along Parramatta River is just 30 minutes west of the Sydney CBD.
The Six Foot Track Marathon will return on the 12th of March 2022 in the stunning Blue Mountains. The course is a 45 kilometre trail stretching across the Blue Mountains from The Explorer's Marked Tree, near Katoomba to Jenolan Caves.
Ultra-Trail Australia will return on the 12-15th May 2022. Ultra-Trail Australia is four day running festival incorporating a 100 kilometre, 50 kilometre, 22 kilometre and 11km trail run through the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park.

Fast, Flat and Scenic Course – Starts under The Entrance Bridge, at The Entrance and proceeds along The Entrance Road north before linking up with the cycleway and continuing along the path for 5km for Fun Runners and 10. 5km for Half Marathon runners.
